Always A Rainbow: Sing up to Cancer is an exciting, semi-staged concert celebration of the very best musical theatre that the South has to offer, telling a story of love and strength in the face of adversity, featuring:

  • a host of musical favourites which held particular significance for much-loved giants of the regional theatre scene, teenage actor Ben Pavitt and musical director Nigel Finch, both sadly lost to cancer since 2021;

and

  • showcasing a gripping, brand new musical Always A Rainbow, written by award-winning local songwriter Helen Bonney and writers Elizabeth and Katie Dale.

All profits from this production go to two charities fighting to cure childhood cancer and to support cancer sufferers of all ages: Ben Pavitt’s Legacy of Love Fund (a Special Named Fund of the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group)* and Macmillan Cancer Support**.

This show is directed by Louise Hodson, who brought MAST audiences glittering, smash-hit productions of Legally Blonde and Crazy For You with SOS Presents in 2022, and who formed Pinpoint Productions with Nigel Finch in 2020, and MD Ian Partridge, a decorated graduate of Nigel’s academy of music, who directs a talented live band of top local musicians. The show features some of the region’s leading amateur theatrical performers.

New musical Always A Rainbow tells the story of inspiring Polish paediatrician, educator and author Janusz Korczak who ran a progressive orphanage in Warsaw before and during World War 2, and who gave his life in order that the children in his care should not have to face the prospect of the Nazi concentration camps alone or afraid.

Dr Korczak, Ben and Nigel shared many wonderful traits which this production celebrates. Audiences will leave the show in equal measure touched by the beauty of their example and uplifted by laughter and colourful music reflective of the joy which they each brought to so many in their too short lives.
